Spikewise terms of use

Last updated 12 October 2026

These terms apply to the Spikewise app, made by Backslash d.o.o., Zagreb, Croatia (“we”). By using the app you agree to them. If you buy a subscription through the App Store, Apple’s standard licensed application end user licence agreement also applies; through Google Play, Google Play’s terms of service apply.

What Spikewise is, and is not

Spikewise estimates how a meal is likely to affect blood sugar, from published nutrition and glycemic index data and, when you use a photo feature, from what an AI model sees in the photo. These are general estimates for typical people, not a measurement of your own response. Photo recognition and portion sizes can be wrong.

Spikewise is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Do not use it to decide insulin or medication doses. If you have diabetes, prediabetes or any other condition, talk to your doctor, nurse or dietitian before changing what you eat.

Who can use it

You must be at least 16 years old.

Free features and Spikewise Premium

Searching foods, building plates and their estimates, meal ideas, the guide, barcode lookup and your log are free. The AI features (plate, menu, fridge and label photos and “Explain this estimate”) include 3 free uses to try them, and are then part of Spikewise Premium.

Spikewise Premium is an auto renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, bought through the App Store or Google Play. The price is shown in the app before you buy. A free trial, where offered, turns into a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period. You can manage and cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.

Fair use

Each AI use costs us money to run, so Premium includes up to 20 AI uses a day and 200 in any 30 days, within a fair use limit on what those uses cost us; a free trial includes up to 10 a day. The app shows how many you have left. Everything that does not use AI has no limit. We may briefly pause the AI features for everyone if they are being abused or a provider is unavailable.

Acceptable use

Don’t use the app or its server to do anything unlawful, to photograph people without their permission, or to overload, scrape or reverse engineer the service.

Your content

Your log stays on your phone. When a label or a new dish is read from a photo, its name and estimated nutrition (never the photo) join the shared food list, and you allow us to use them for everyone.

Liability

The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of its estimates. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date above will change. Questions: hrvoje.grdic1@gmail.com. Croatian law applies, without taking away the protection of the consumer law of the country you live in.
